It rotates (as viewed by the driver) about and inch over the pillar (probably 2 degrees). I didn't know if this was common or not.

I doubt it's the wrong blade because I bought the blade/holder from Fastlane.

With the chance of the wrong blade eliminated, then it leads to the orientation of the wiper arm placed wrongly on the wiper motor hub.

The arm and blade should sit low on the passenger side. Make sure the lower blade is down all the way and then adjust the upper arm. Raise the hood to the vertical position to get better access.

Did the old blade hit the pillar?

Actually I don't know, I had to replace the blades as part of the vehicle inspection when I got the car. In Maryland, they do that at first registration. The inspection here is "draconian" to say the least.

Mine hits the pillar too, not as much tho. A shorter blade should help things out. Mine also sits where it should when at rest.

My 84 500SEL had this problem and it was caused by play in the linkage. I replaced the entire wiper assembly with a used one from an 89 420SEL and the problem was gone. I don't know if the individual parts are available as I didn't even try that aproach. The other thing I have done is I removed the right side arm and wiper completely. I only makes a difference of about 3 inches on the far right side but the replacement cost for wiper blade replacement has been cut in half.

wrong blade

Go to the dealer and get the right blade. I bought a replacement "set" off this forum / fast lane and the blade hit the pillar. Went to the dealer, got the OEM blade, no contact.

On some Mercedes the left & right blades are different lengths
not sure if a 300SD falls into that category.
