That engine is not emissions certified to be used in that chassis over here.

I and many others think the CLS is the best looking sedan to come out of any car company in decades. Having a CDI in one would be the bees knees. You can chip those engines. 0-60 in under 6 seconds in diesel.

I don't really like the CLS style, but if I was looking for that type of car I would probably buy a gas engine anyway. I don't really understand the point of diesel powered sport sedans.

The CLS has been in research and development for almost 2 years more than the nissan...

AFAIK, Nissan copied Merc.

Correct the CLS is an older design, the Japanese copy the Germans not the other way around. Lexus started the trend with the LS430, and they have been ripping them ever since. The new Accord rips the C class bad.

But they are ripping off MB designs and not Audi or BMW, so that says something.

The CLS is a sexy car, its like a Jag and an E class had a kid! You get really sharp modern looks, with a somewhat British interior, and its all MB so the quality is their.

I'd buy a CLS in a heart beat, soon as I get out of school and start making money I probably will. At least until the W221's come down in pricing. The CDI would be nice but the 3.5L V6 would be fine as well.

If the diesel is more powerful than the gas engine what's to understand? Alot of those that dont understand are watching Audi kick the gasser world's ass in a diesel.

Who says the diesel is faster? There was a comparison in Road and Track comparing the Bluetec diesel and a regular E350 gasser. The gasser blasted it in the quarter mile and 0-60. The quarter mile gap was more than a half second which doesn't sound like much, but at a drag strip it counts for a lot.

Still, it's pretty amazing how far diesels have come today!

The diesel of course gets 30 mpg instead of 20 mpg though which is nice, and the 400 ft-lbs of torque rocks for daily driving.

It's not just the numbers; I like diesels, but they just don't feel the same and I wouldn't put one in a performance car. The performance characteristics of a diesel are more suited to steady power (including endurance racing), but a high performance gasser is simply more fun to drive.
