W123 Blower Brushes

I am trting to get into my bolwer motor to replace the brushes. I cannot seem to get the metal plate (w/ motor and brushes) out so that I can change the brushes. Does anyone have any ideas for this. I can send pics if you all need them.

Did somebody ask for photos?????

I had to support the squirrel cage and pound the motor assy from it using a punch on the shaft.

You have to use a punch or chisel to undo the "tabs" that are bent in such a way as to seal the motor can.

There's the brushes way down there. You also want to clean and lube those bushings and clean and scotchbrite the armature shaft ends where they contact the bushings.

It should also be noted that when you see a commutator (the part where the brushes ride on the rotor) like the one in the pic there with a deep groove or not squarely worn to the shaft, it should be turned on a lathe to make it flat again to do the repair right, you could toss brushes at it and make it run, but it'll wear the brushes quickly and probably wouldn't last nearly as long as it did before. Took me about 10 minutes to clean mine up and put a finish dress on it.

It should also be noted that persons without a lathe can do a nice job if they are careful using a drill and a file first... use paper around the shaft where the drill will hold it... and a v in a piece of wood to rest the other end in... and a nice fine sharp file.... ( this is nicer as a two person job ) cleaned with a file card between each gentle but firm stroke... moving the file all the time it is contact with the brass, copper or whatever yours has... don't press too hard...you are wanting to take off and smooth while pressing as little as possible between the sections... which is often mica to keep them electrically separate.... and that area should be cleaned carefully after the filing to slightly under the level of the metal just cleaned.
A piece of sandpaper.. I use flint... can be held Around the surface to do the final polish.
Warning...do not use wet or dry sandpaper as it will speed the corrosion.. just as you should not use it for smoothing tungsten points in distributors.

Jimmy, good pictures.... guess that comes under the 'ask and you shall receive' category.

Wasn't there a guy whose 300TD burned to the ground because of a bad blower motor?
What else should be inspected while the motor is apart?

Length is too long. Have to reduce the length to about 14mm to fit the holder with the spring. Not sure if this is the correct length but it seems to work.

It must be not all W123s have the same Motor.
Not on the Motor but Plastic Housing the Motor Mounts on it has Seimens or Siemens. Also the Motor Brushes on Mine were Bronze not Carbon and they were located on the Fan End of the Blower not the Rear like the Bosch Motors.
