"Diesel-Only" Label on Gas Cap?

Greetings - Has anybody ever created a "Diesel-Only" label or sign that attaches to either the gas cap or the area around the filler opening? Here in NJ they still fill the tank for you.

Thanks,
- bigmaq

My E300TD is labeled DIESEL on the inside of the fuel door. --Not real evident to an Oregon or NJ gas-jockey.

My Ford PowerStroke diesel is labeled DIESEL FUEL ONLY, on the outside of the fuel door.

Diesel owners do not have to let them fill your tank. That only applies to gasoline cars.

you think the loud engine, the smell, and the smoke would give a person a clue

Of course, we would never make that mistake. It's just when my wife takes the car and tries to fill up the "gas" tank.

Oregon is like N.J. couldn`t believe someone was going to pump my fuel.

But I usually leap out and talk to the dude, hey! How ya doin? Here let
me help you. I haven`t had a real problem the few times I have been
there.
I have a tank in the trunk that holds another 12 gal. and I don`t need
some pump jocky sloping diesel all over the inside of my trunk. so far so
good.

The old days when they pumped fuel, we use to get S&H Green stamps,
or Blue Chip stamps with a fill up, also those green bumpy glasses, or
some other come on to buy their fuel.

Also maybe 5 kids in white uniforms with white hats, they would pump
gas, wash your windows, check oil & water. I forget the station, but
it was their minute man service. might have been Union 76.
And gas was around 30 cents.

Charlie

PS. the logic of not pumping your own fuel acording to my daughter is
that it creates jobs.

The reasons given are the jobs, environmental (spills), and safety. I also suspect jobs are the major reason.

All of mine have some sort of label or another. In fact, my Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser station wagon, even has it in the dash gauge cluster, underneath the fuel gauge. It says, "Diesel Fuel Only" and it says the same thing in the filler area behind the fuel door.

When I was like 17 or something, I worked at U-Haul. We used to constantly get customer service phone calls from U-Haul Road-Side, and such, about customers having put gas in the Diesel trucks. They'd be lucky to get out of the gas station parking lot. The they would call us yelling and screaming as if it were our fault or something. U-Haul trucks all have it written everywhere you look on them. Filler area, visor, operators manual, dash board, and even in some other odd U-Haul installed places. People still did it all the time though.

I don't know what kind of damage it does internally but the trucks were very often gone for repairs for long periods of time. I think because they'd fix them and just get them on the road. Some never returned to our location at all.

A "Diesel Fuel Only" sticker will not stop an illiterate New Joisey pump jockey from putting gasoline in it. I know this from firsthand experience.
