I don`t have a EGR. I think your on the right track though. Make sure your vacumm lines are right before you adjust the linkage.

You could mark the linkage before you move it and see what happens when you move it. That way you could always put it back if you need too. I have a 300D with the same setup as yours. It seams to me that there was no hoses going to a couple of spots on that 5 way plug. The cars not here for me to look at now. Try looking in the DIY section . There should a picture or diagram in there.

Is that reasonably correct?
If you look on the Peter Schmid diagram, you'll see item #63, a vacuum orifice, which regulates the amount of vacuum to the VCV.

I don't see this in your sketch, and, you can't properly control the transmission without it.

If the system has been "compromised" by a PO, this is one of the first things that get trashed. However, it's vital to a properly functional system.

I was able to eliminate the hard down shifts and improve upshifts and initial engagement today by adjusting the Bowden cable.

Don't have one of those.

Although I can see what I think are the attachment points on the throttle linkage where it should be, the '83 doesn't use a Bowden cable. Shift points and smoothness are all vacuum.
