I don`t have a EGR. I think your on the right track though. Make sure your vacumm lines are right before you adjust the linkage.

You could mark the linkage before you move it and see what happens when you move it. That way you could always put it back if you need too. I have a 300D with the same setup as yours. It seams to me that there was no hoses going to a couple of spots on that 5 way plug. The cars not here for me to look at now. Try looking in the DIY section . There should a picture or diagram in there.

I was able to eliminate the hard down shifts and improve upshifts and initial engagement today by adjusting the Bowden cable.
