I just paid $130 for a Mercedes dealer alignment. As I drove out of the parking lot the suspension started to make clunking noises. I took it back... the "mechanic" forgot to tighten everything back up after loosening it for alignment! The 20 miles I drove the car while clunking must have screwed up the alignment so I have to take it back, the dealer only re-tightened everything and sent me on my way. This is me with a new front suspension and two new sets of tires with wear on the outside now. It still wears the outer edge of the front tires.

I think that is known as "upselling." Or "How to turn a simple service job into a major repair."

The dealer (service dept) in GR is the reason I vowed to never buy another M-B, ... broke my vow (but no new/warrantee ones).

I don't think that a dealer alignment is necessarily good, nor an indy necessarily bad, go on reputation not signs.

Two weeks ago my F250's tie rod came out of the adjustment sleeve while my wife was driving it! It had been a year since the dealership aligned it. That truck will NEVER go back to that dealership.

BTW I like the looks of the Sears printout.

Alignment and making sure camber and all those things are as they should be will help.

So will rotating the tires every 5,000 miles.

Unless you are taking a right hand turn very aggressively every day and twice on Sunday you should be getting very even wear on all four tires. Are your ball joints tight? If the car has too much positive camber (top riding further out than the bottom) that would wear the tire on the outside. If it has too much toe in that would wear both front tires on the outside.

I am betting you have either a loose ball joint letting the tire tip on curves or it has too much positive camber.

Sounds lke I need to get an allignment.
I Have an excellent shop in west Palm Beach; Weber Wheel Alignment, that does them the old fashioned way. In allighment pits. 110 and 1 yr guarantee.

I'll wait until I get 4 new tires ( and Capt. William's 15" wheels ) then make an appointment at Weber.
They are that good where they get booked 1-2 weeks in advance.
