Help!! 93 300D 2.5 turbo won't run
Hi all...The wife's 300d starts but doesn't run. It is 5:30 pm and snowing. Just got home from work my 300SD running like a top... So, I did the usual drill: changed both fuel filters and sat back smug that my fix to every fuel problem would again impress the wife. Climbed back in. Let the glow plugs do thier stuff and cranked. Instead of a nice diesel clank, Nothing!! Same symptons, starts, runs like it is still fuel starved, and quits after 15 seconds at 1000 rpm. All cylinders firing, no missing when actually running.
Am I missing something here???

Hate to be the jerk to ask this question, but any chance it's out of fuel?
Could be tank strainer, although you'd think your wife would have noticed a decreased performance over time before it hit the point of not running.

Had she put fuel in the tank recently? Possibly a bad fuel problem, ... water/ice?

Try switching inlet and return lines to check on whether the tank strainer is plugged?

If you have to crank it 10 or 30 secs to get it to fire it probably has an air leak entering the fuel system somewhere.
This is where the "cheap plastic fuel lines" some complain about on the 606.xxx actually come in handy. Check the oring(s) on the fuel filter bolt, the banjo bolt on the block side of the IP, all clamped fuel lines and any other likely points of entry. If indeed a fuel leak it should be pretty obvious as has to be big to stall out once running.
