W114 auto trans
I have several w114/115 auto trans , is there some positive way (numbers?) to identify which ones are for diesel cars and which ones are for petrol cars, or is it just the torque converter that is different.
I am going to get rid of them so I wanted to list them correctly. Thanks for your help.

The trannies have a device kindof like a governor which decides at what rpm it shifts up to the next gear. If it is from a diesel engine it will be set up to shift at (maybe) 4,250 rpm. If it is from a gasser it will be set up to shift at (maybe) 6,150 rpm.
They will interchange (generally) and you will be fine if you put a diesel tranny in a gasser. It will just shift lower than you really want. Now if you put a gasser tranny into a diesel engined car it will want to overrev the motor on a full throttle shift. Tom W
