Update to Autozone Windshield Washer Pump

So I went ahead and installed this generic external windshield washer pump from Autozone, #5-861 for $13.99. Having a functional washer pump may not be a big deal in the warmer parts of the country, but in parts of the country where it snows you'll soon realize that a working washer pump is very desirable, not to mention a big plus for safety.

Here's what I found:

First, it works. You just have to remember that the fluid will come out of the side outlet. The top inlet attaches to washer reservoir. Also, you'll need to prime the top hose from the pump to the reservoir. Just suck it manually until it's full, then attach to the top of the pump inlet. The pump wiring is labeled with positive and negative, so just match it with the original wires. It my case, the original wire with the yellow strip that was positive, but double check your own wires.

Some thoughts about this:
Well, I saved some money. Second, the OEM spray nozzle s*cks. It looks like somebody is peeing on your windshield. It doesn't have that nice spray pattern what we take for granted with newer cars.

So, my question out there. Has anybody modified that spray pattern? Attached a different nozzle? I have an extra nozzle that I was playing around with trying to attach it. Problem is that these nozzles are plastic, but the outlet nozzle is copper (or some sort of metal). It looks doable though, that's why I'm asking if anybody has tried it yet.

Thanks,
bigmaq

Try this thread. I know someone has done this. . .

Let us know if you have any luck.

FWIW, I bought a new OEM style pump and it was ~$20 about 6 months ago. Fastlane should have it for about that price.

Yep....********az has it even cheaper.....so there's really no point in buying an aftermarket pump. I am all about OEM.

The nozzle pattern can be adjusted...

How so? I replaced the CD's with stock parts, instead of dribbling on the hood, they now spray over the roof at interstate speeds.

The nozzles are little ball joint kinda deals. Stick a paper clip into the hole and you can move it around and aim it where you want.
