Ginny-
I would certainly go back at that locking nut with a wrench and give it about 20lbs or torque. If you look at the thread I sent originally, the center part really should be held securely and the outer nut tightened, but most all of these I have heard about have no way to grasp the inner adjuster. If yours simply backed out, just tightening the nut( with the adjuster rotating with it) should do. If it ever happens again, you will know what to do. If you do wear that band apprciably, you will need to find a way to turn that inner screw in to compensate for band wear, but unless or until that happens, just keeping the assembly from backing out should do. I would not drill anything, nor would I use any locktite because if you get any between the nut and the stud it will make it more difficult to make the ADJUSTMENT that the assembly is designed (albeit poorly designed) for Rick

Message 8 gives a list of MBs that should have the 722.1xx tranny.
On the passengers side of the car, on the side of the tranny on MY car there is a small headed bolt that is kind of hidden by what I think is the kickdown solenoid. The top of my bolt is all of 1/4 inch and then gets slightly larger as it goes into the transmission. My hands are small so I could get my hand up and into the tiny area where the bolt is and turn it. I'm not sure someone with large hands could hand turn it. I think it turned 8 times which at half a turn each is something like 4 full turns. I don't know how long the entire bolt is, but this was really loose and easy to tighten by hand.

Ginny-
What you turned in last night was not really a bolt but a two-piece assembly of an inner stud with a "locking" nut that is supposed to keep it from backing out. It probably looked like a bolt with all that crud on it, but it's really two pieces. Rick

I read this thread and laughed out loud. When I was still in the MB parts business, one of our used car mechanics ordered a transmission for an '83 300, rough shifting complaint.
After installing the transmission, it still had a rough shift. He asked the shop forman for help. The foreman looked at the vacuum switchover valve on top of the valve cover, you know the rest of the story. The mechanic asked me if he could have his old transmission back. I laughed and simply said "BULL****"!!!
