Not likely - can't think of any use for them. I just need to take a photo for my archives. Those things sure are expensive, $100 each wholesale, and there are three of them. Yikes!

Yeah, that's why I was asking...I've already had to buy one for the wastegate. I think they revised the design after 1990.

And how much was it for the pressure type actuator?

I can't wait to do this mod! I have thrown quite a bit of $$ into these little devices and still can't get them to give me max boost at max rpm...

Thanks,

The 1990-1991 design used three transducers, one for each item (EGR, wastegate, and flapper valve). The 1992-1993 design used only two transducers... one of them controlled both the wastegate and flapper valve (the output was split, and switchover valves downstream turned each on/off), the other transducer was dedicated to the EGR valve. Weird setup, lots of hoses and fittings. I could probably be talked into selling the whole rat's nest, shoot me a reasonable offer if you're interested.

Big Ben, the cost for the actuator *should* be under $100. You also need a fitting, a hose, and some clamps but that stuff is pretty cheap. You may want to test your car by routing a vacuum line directly to the wastegate ( forcing it closed, to full boost all the time) and testing your boost pressure. If it still won't hit at least 12psi, something else is wrong. If it does go to 12-14psi (or higher), the wastegate swap should fix your problem. Just remember to put things back to normal, you shouldn't drive around with a forced-shut wastegate except for testing...!

This sounds perfectly reasonable. I want one asap. Even if I have to re-thread the rod and cut extra length, it's no big deal for me.

I have done this test on the first day I installed the boost gage. I can recall seeing something like 18-19 psi !!! with lots of power!!! But I know I can't leave it like this or I'll end up melting pistons and blowing head gasket.

I only want it to give me 11-12 psi, even past 3000 rpm. I'm a bit fed up of sorting out EDS components with no improvements. Imagine: I have changed intake flap actuator, EGR valve and one transducer for a little more than 500$.

So I'm in for a pressure type wastegate actuator.

Thanks,

I posted all the wastegate swap photos at this URL. Also, I replaced the thin-wall vacuum hose with a more robust, 3/16" fuel hose from NAPA, and put worm-gear clamps on in place of the Zip-ties. The connection is a lot more solid now. If I can find a screw-in fitting for the compressor housing with a smaller hose barb, I will switch it to 1/8" hose instead. The 3/16" hose is a tad loose at the wastegate, and a little snug at the compressor fitting.

I sent another email to the vendor I bought this stuff from. I'll probably try to call them next week so I can post the final info here, and y'all can either order from them, or find your own source. Stay tuned...

Yeap, good enough for me.

Thanks,

I got a little more info. The wastegate I installed is $79. The vendor is ordering in the other wastegate, which should be a bolt-on, without having to shorten the rod. They haven't received it, so we can't confirm just yet, and I still don't have a part number for the "correct" wastegate. I expect the price to be the same at $79 though. I'll post when I have more info.

Any updates? I'm about to take my car down for maintenance (I really don't like the intake manifold on these cars), and was wondering if I could sneak this in while its down

Thanks!

No new info yet, John. The swap is working fine on my '93 with the wastegate in my photos. You can order one of those, but it will have to be modified. I'm still waiting for the different wastegate to arrive...

A different wastegate with the correct length arrived at the vendor, but it's opening at 11psi, not 14psi. They're working on ordering in yet *another* one to try to get both the length, and operating pressure, correct. The wategate I used is available, as long as you don't mind modifying it.

Thanks for the update! Is it possible to adjust this wastegate like the older T3s on the 617s?

No, the wastegate canister is sealed, so it's non-adjustable. However, since the signal hose is external, you can just add an aftermarket boost controller to raise (but not lower) the pressure at which the wastegate opens. For non-Myna-fed engines, the standard 14psi is fine...
