Rus, looks like that car needs a new idle knob
 Very helpful pictorial on the combo sw. I will be doing same to mine but instead of replacing, I want to clean the contacts inside....

Nice, on the W126 you get to remove the steering wheel.
  I will give bonus points to the W123 for that.

Fixed my combo switch today. Symptom was only fast wiper mode worked but ocassionally, all modes work if turn signal is switched to left. So, I figured it wasn't the relay.
I removed the combo sw and noticed the black wire (see pic) broke off its terminal. Wow, cant be this simple... so, I soldered it back, put back the combo and Voila!! Works like the way it should. (while I had it out, I also sprayed contact cleaner inside the sw mechanism, dried it and sprayed electrical silicone lubricant)
