82 300D turbo on ebay, wish me luck

Okay, now before you condem me for this, you must first know that I rely on the universe to help me make decisions. If it wasn't meant to be then it doesn't happen. I listen intently and if things don't go my way I'm never angry as that would be ungrateful.

So, knowing that, just congratulate me and wish me luck in driving across the country. I did get info and extra pics, more than on the listing. The owner sounds reasonable and I explained that I would be driving back to Denver with my 13 year old daughter. He said he had no problem allowing me to do so in this car.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290202333699

Not a bad price-as long as it gets me back home.
Fingers crossed for me.
If there is anyone one the way from Orlando to Denver who would like a house guest for overnight (save me a bit of change) I'll be glad to cook! LOL!

Hell of a good price if it is as described. Might be almost as cheap to ship it home.

Are you talking about Pierre Hedary who also goes by Pete. I was at a car show and he wiped a dipstick in his hair. I could not belive it, he is a nut.
I go to his shop every couple weeks. He knows his stuf.

I agree. A very good description by a knowledgeable guy.

But, a dent........a tear..........and a few very poor photos means that it only commands a price slightly above a parts car.

You'd think a smart guy would have done a better job with the listing.........but, the dent always knocks the price down significantly.

Good luck with it........hopefully it's as advertised.

you got it for a good price! I wish the pics were better. you would think that in florida, there would be a good spot out of the shade to take pictures...
I recommend that you take some valve wrenches and a new vc gasket with you. also a full set of filters, and get some oil before you drive it home.
Good luck! let us know how good a deal you got when you get it home!

Well you certainly didn't have to pay a whole lot. I hope that it is still a good deal. I always have liked that color.
You had better really keep an eye on that oil level on the way home. When someone admits it uses "a little" oil, you can bet that is an understatement.....

I wish you the best of luck... Not a bad price, but frankly, seems like a risky proposition for a pretty common car-especially so far from you. I see a few red flags in the auction description (changed crankcase breather hose, oil burning, odometer slipping) that would make me run. This car also seems to suffer from "pinkamino" seats - the outside edges of the seats turn a different color than the inner pleated section- typical here. As was suggested earlier, I would strongly consider having it shipped. Probably can be done for less than $1000 ( I had my W116 shipped from Cali for $900 - but that was 3 years ago). Consider that it will cost you $350 in fuel, 2 airline tickets, hotels and opportunity costs of your time...and that's if nothing goes wrong. If something DOES go south on your trip, who do you think you will be able to find in East Podunk AR who is going to know how to fix it? Also makes me nervous that its not his daily driver, why not?

Rick

I just returned from a 6875 mile tour of this country in my '84. I was fortunate not to have a real schedule or fixed route, so I could go where where he snow wasn't (except for Albequerque NM dangit)

Anyway I'd suggest allowing the weather to dictate your route. And if weather and time permit I'd also suggest seeing graceland in memphis for the sheer weirdness factor, (don't forget to get your $12 coffee mug) and the OKC monument for entirely other reasons.

good luck!

Sounds like quite an adventure. Good luck & keep us posted.
You're welcome to stop by and give it a good inspection and do any repairs you'd like before heading back home. I'm in Old Town, Fl. about 2 1/2 hrs NW of Orlando. There's a tourist trap in Kissimmee, Fl near Orlando called Old Town. That's not where I live. I'm about 50 miles west of Gainesville. I've got most of the tools you may need and enough space to work and don't mind giving you a hand. If it's not up to the trip, you could leave it here until you make other plans to get it home.

There's some pics of my shop at this thread... posts 49 & 50:

This forum is so durned wonderful sometimes, I could cry. That right there is just a friendly, sincere offer.

I'm tempted to drive down to Florida just to park MY car in that sweet garage.

Best of luck Ginny - but I agree with some other posters on here - I'd ship it home....either way, I'm sure you'll keep us posted.
