Power Steering Assembly fracture

Hey, Y'all--I have a '91 350 SD with 186K (yeah, I know--"Rod Bender," blah, blah) that recently had a stress fracture of the topmost bolts of the P/S pump assembly. It was idling in my drive, warming up for my daily commute. Tore both upper bolted attachments to bits. Fan belt flew off, still was running. My Ace Mechanic came by later that day to point out the problem. Has anyone a suggestion as to the cause of or past experience with this issue? I found a part replacement, but sure don't want this happening again while cruising up the highway at 85 mph.
