2.5 602 changing fuel filter/priming lines, wont start

so i just did this this morning so i havnt put alot of time in it yet cuz i had to go to work.

I replaced my main fuel filter (spin on) and now the car wont start. of course it is because i didnt bleed the system correctly, heres how it went down. Took the old one off, put the new one on. I had to disconnect the main vac supply line to get the filter in/out. pretty certain i tightened everything enough. The old filter was a mann and the new on is a bosch from fastlane, the bosch is a little narrower in size but the gaskets line up with the ones on the mann. I would have filled it up with fuel before putting the new one on, but the only fuel i had on hand was the reall nasty fuel in the old filter, and the factory service manual never said anything about it so i figured it would be fine.

i cranked it, it ran for about 3 seconds then shut off, i imagine i just burned up all the fuel that was left over in the IP. The manual says that the 602 has a self priming IP, and i couldnt find any priming pump on it so what i did is i just hooked my mitty vac up to the filter housing output and sucked fuel into it till it was full, still wont go and now my battery is dead!

ive read all the other threads about loosening the injector lines etc. but i was wondering if i should have to do that considering that i have a "self priming IP" or if there is some other step i need to take.

thanks

Step 1 - Fill all filters with fuel.
Step 2 - Charge battery
Step 3 - Crank 30 secs at a time for 3 tries.
Step 4 - Recharge battery if necessary.
Step 5 - Crack metal lines at IP and crank until fuel appears.
Step 6 - Repeat step 3.

If it seems like it is catching, keep cranking until you are 100% certain it is running. Wont hurt starter.

crack the lines at the IP? or should i crack them at the injectors? or does it even matter, i can imagine that it doesnt. I think the other threads said at the injectors.

thanks alot,

Another way is to remove your air cleaner and spray wd 40 directly into the intake while cranking. YOur diesel will run fine on the wd 40 until your engine is primed and will run on its own. NO damage either.

got it! once i had the filter primed all i had to do was charge the battery and crank the hell out of it till it turned over. there was about a minute of sputtering before it started.

thanks!
