A new Transmission for my 126
The 4-Speed Manual from a Euro 300D IS MINE
pulled it today at pick and pull. i got the transmission, flywheel, drive shaft (the small one just after the transmission), the linkage, the floor shifter, and the speedometer cable. I have a 124 speedometer for a 3.07 rear end. i have the the pedals from a 123 240D. also in the garage is a second 4-Speed Manual form a 115 240D, Linkage from the 115 240D, the front half of the drive shaft off the 115 240D, and the shifter and linkages from a 116 280SE. i think I'm ready. with the flywheel from the 300D i should be able to bolt that onto the engine in the SD. I replaced the engine in my 84 SD with one from an 81 SD, so there should be no issue getting the pilot bearing. I've read the conversion "how-to" for the 123 auto to manual swap. but i still have a few questions about making the conversion to my 126. I read that the pedals from the 123 are usable in the 126 with some modifications. has anyone ever doe this? or will i be the first. Is there a way i can roll the millage on the 124 speedometer to match what my speedometer reads? very proud of my 342,xxx miles. is the length of the drive shaft for the 300D correct for the 126? I know where there is a 116 280SE Manual that still has its drive shaft. should i go get that? is there any difference in gearing in the 2 Manual trannys i have? one from a 1974 240D and one from a 1982 Euro 300D. and finally, has anyone ever done this before? thanks! ![]()

hey dude garrett called me and told me he may be able to get me a tranny for us to swap (you know the story) but if he cant get the parts car(im sort of confused, whats going on?) then I suppose Ill need a tranny for an sd. Apparently a tailhousing is a big giant massive effing thing and if you take it out brains spill all over the garage floor (or so ive heard). So if we cant get that tranny then, well, you got an extra
![]() Anyway good job on getting that trans. Your going to have to let me drive it when its done. How much did pnp charge you for it?

If you mix and match driveshaft parts they will probably have to be balanced.

turbobenz, can you do me a favor? since you have that SD tranny out of the car, and your SD is empty, and because I'm lazy. I'd like to know the overall length of the automatic transmission. from the front of the bell housing to the end of the flex disc. and if you could what is the length of the front half of the drive shaft? it might be hiding under the tunnel shield. if its to hard to get it out thats ok... because I'm lazy so i know how that is
![]() as far as Garrett and his schemes. hes selling his wagon and might be getting an engine and tranny out of an SD in trade as part of the price. so he was looking to get them to people who can use them since he already has an extra engine and tranny. i might buy the engine from him for the 240 ![]()

Not Quite that simple
Sorry to disappoint but your linkages wont work, they will be far to short.
Also, your driveshaft wont work, (to short) And the electric speedo in your W126 is not compatible with the speedo cable in the W123 As for the pedals, they will work, should not need to do any mods. except for the fact that the W123 pedals wont hit the floor in the same place so you will have to make a stopper block for the W123 clutch pedal. EDIT** the linkages from a W116 might work, W123s will not.

I have the 124 Speedo (cable driven, and fits the 126 cluster) that is already calibrated for the 3.07 rear in my SD. i just need to know how to change the millage on the 124 speedo.

I was all hot to trot to put a manual tranny behind a turbod 617... but theres a reason MBZ didn't do it. Just look at the stall speed of the auto trannys behind the turbo 617 for starts.
Please don't get me wrong, I'm NOT one of those purists who think that car engineering reached its peak in the early 80's in stuttgart, If I think I can improve upon my car(s), I give it a try, and I encourage others to do the same, however in this case, others have tried it... w/ very mixed results. Good luck

He bought the car that way and the job was done so incredibly well that he was convinced it came that way. It was rear ended hard but I beleive it was fixed.

http://img220.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dslengtheu5.jpg http://img220.imageshack.us/my.php?image=measuredangleld4.jpg The last image shows how I measured the trans with the tape measure. I didnt try to hold it level, I just went straight down the back of it. And whats up with inserting images? I still dont get it how people just insert a massive image into their post becuase I tried two different html codes for inserting images and none worked (tried a normal code and the one listed in this forums list of codes)
