parts ID and question
can someone ID these boxes and relay inside the glovebox. I was looking for the climate control amplifier. My monovalve has 12V all the time and I get no heat. I replaced the ccu unit with a known working one and still I have 12V in all positions. the gold part, looks like some sort of relay, is really hot to the touch even an hour after shutting down the car. seemd to be stuck or shorted or something to be that hot. any input appreciated

is this it, change over valve?
what does it do and why would it be energized and hot an hour after tuning off the car? http://catalog.worldpac.com/mercedesshop/sophio/wizard.jsp?partner=mercedesshop&clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&cookieid=29S1513IW2AZ1AOVN3&year=1982&make=MB&model=300-CDT-001&category=All&part=Elect.+Change+Over+Valve

The silver box on the left is the climate control module, the black box on the right is the blower control module, and the relay looking thing is a changeover valve although I don't remember what it controls. There's a section in the service manual that describes troubleshooting the climate control by measuring resistances at the connector to the climate control module in various modes. I'll have to look it up again tomorrow.

did you remove and inspect the monovalve?

i did not, I removed the connector and I get plenty of heat so I assumed it was functioning. I have a rebuild kit coming in the mail but if the valve is always getting 12V I dont think it will make any difference. The gold changeover valve was really hot and so was the ccu when I removed it so something doesnt seem right. I am going to pull the amp out tonight and see if it has some loose solder joints.

well I figured it out. with a meter hooked on the monovalve and the ignition on i see 12V no matter what. so I unplugged the ccu amp and still 12V, yesterday I also had 12V with the ccu button unit unplugged. so I decided that the ground is coming from a short. i start tracing the wire and viola. A PO fix. looks like the monovalve ground signal wire was hooked directly to the screw under the ice cube relay plate. it was obvious once I saw it no heat no way no how with this setup. so I removed the ground wire and now I get 12v with the ccu off, 0v on heat and 12v with the wheel turned to full cold. very nice. glad I didnt rip apart the ccu or ccu amp.
btw, the gold changeover valve is actuated by the door switch, i assume it is for the coupe seat back vacuum locks. i disconnected it.
