At current prices Bubba is still driving his silly giant trucks (with nothing in the back except beer cans) and no-one else is seriously considering downsizing their cars. If fuel was $7/gallon folks might start to get interested in something a little smaller. The "oil companies" aren't worried, it would take about 20 of these to offset one Bubba.

..........I have a feeling that by the time it hits the streets fuel WILL be $7 a gallon!
I wonder how long the thing would last? Most tiny engines like that are high strung and do not have much longevity. Fo 20-30 grand I would like at least 150k out of it.

I'm not gong to hold my breath for this sort of car to save us. I am putting together my VW Cabriolet Diesel project as we wait for something better (that's car #10 in the fleet)

Also, you could put up a mast trough the sun roof and put a sail on it during the milder months. Think of the mileage you'd get!

Or cut some holes in the floorboards for those Flintstone starts!

Good question, it might make sense if it was in the price range of a smart car, more like $15K. It would probably have the life expectancy of a motorcycle engine.

A 190d 2.2 standard with a good tailwind could realize 45mpg ,Im in that catogory of buyer .I would like to take this car to further steps and ex out the interior , lighter rims and tires ,put a light weight driver seat in and see just how far it would climb up the MPG range.Im glad someone has the diesel in mind as a motor of econo ,truckers have known for years the value of sleak well performing diesel design .Americans can reunite under the Auto industry if they head in this direction .
