On high end luxury cars, the hybrid system adds additional low-end torque without sacrificing mileage and it's not really about mileage per se. The performance can be pretty impressive.

I don't know the S550 has quite a bit of punch as it is. The AMG and V12 engines have the hand of God feel to them.

Whats 0-60 on the hybrid? If its not like mid to low 5's thats not to impressive then.

I don't know but I'm sure the mileage is a bit better on the hybrid if the acceleration is about the same. There are plenty of rich folks out there who want luxury and performance and not waste too much fuel. I see nothing wrong with that concept. However I feel diesel is a better way to go, though you do sacrifice some top end performance that way.

I had heard about this California lease - only program at the SF International Auto Show in November, 2007, where a new Bluetec was on display.

California was allotted 28 of them, I was told. There are over 20 Mercedes Benz dealers just in the greater Losa Angeles area alone!!

In January, the Mercedes dealer in Fremont California called me to sell me a new car, and when I asked about these, they knew NOTHING about it.

Nothing!!!

What is the % of the urea solution carried......?

As it seems that the human body makes urea from protein utilization. Just might have to "leak" some non-stock soluton into the Benz holding tank.

Regards

It is a marketing gimmick. The offer a few hundred to each state with strict rules and watch the free advertizing roll in as people get all excited about it.

Not sure on the percentage, but it is close to the urea you can get from your local co-op for "salting" your driveway. I think it is also used as a fertilizer as well.

I bet if MB took a survey of S class buyers 75% wouldn't even know what mileage they were getting.

But I agree with you its not about money, its about having the "H" badge on the trunk so you look good.

I don't know why it's so difficult for you to admit that some wealthy people care about the environment and saving fuel while having luxury and performance at the same time. It's not all about money or looking good. Do you save fuel only because it saves you money? If so, I hope fuel stays expensive.
