There has been some interest in a sub-forum of DD regarding Diesel Performance Tuning.

I'd like to gauge the interest in such a forum and ask that members vote in the attached poll.

Feel free to add any additional comments to the thread as you see fit.

I think we already have quite a few forums on the site. I think diesel discussion has build a nice community and I think more forums would dilute that.

Actually, it would be a "sub-forum". Check out "Good MB Shops" as an example of how sub-forums would operate.

Since we don't currently have any discussion of this topic, there's really no dilution........just a place where the topic could be freely discussed with various threads that are common.

I don't see why diesel performance tuning topics can't be discussed in this forum. I've seen plenty of talk about it in the past, I don't have a problem with it being discussed here.

In one way it might be good to have a forum on Diesel performance tuning, in that these type of discussions would be in one place instead of scattered through out the Diesel Discussion Forum.

another thought, maybe the threads on the performance issue could be moved from the Diesel Forum to the new one.
All future performance threads would then be placed on the new forum.

I agree if there is a new sub-forum, those of us that want to read it will go to it; those that have no interest in, and find the thought of non-stock mods deeply disturbing won't have to sift through this info to find what does interest them. And perhaps the majority of the members will drop in now and then, when the whim moves them.

While that may be a good idea, it sounds like a very daunting task, especially because much performance stuff is sprinkled all through the main diesel forum. (A strong reason for those who don't want to see it, to still support the idea)

It may help alleviate some of the congestion on the DD forum. there are busy times when a thread can get pushed to page 2-3 in no time, to sink away into the abyss.....

I and several others have been working on a new forum, http://superturbodiesel.com/ for performance diesel mercedes and tuning. It would be a shame to see our work go to waste. We have no interest in competing with other sites, we want to complement the existing resources without detracting from them by providing a forum that is strictly dedicated to the subject matter.

We are looking for article writers.

-that's another good option. Especially if the owners of this forum don't feel threatened at all. I'd like to support the operators of this forum but can't by buying parts here, since they don't ship to Canada... Yet Yourself and the other "shoeman-banned-its" deserve respect and loyalty for their knowledge and willingness to share with us less experienced enthusiasts.

I'm in discussions with Bill about it. We'd like to gauge interest before going forward.

However, if Winmutt and company are going to continue and promote the new forum independently, I'm somewhat disinclined to start another new forum.

My thoughts were that the new forum (www.superturbodiesel.com) would be better served if it was here.........due to the significantly increased traffic.

These are my thoughts as well.

I think an MBShop super turbo forum would be good since it would be easier to find that information in one location vs it being scattered throughout DD. Another thought is that there are basically two main opinions of modifying these cars... "mercedes knows best" or "lets see what we can do"...

I support any and all superturbo ventures.

While I do not currently own a turbo, I will within the next couple years and it will need to be tuned. I do a lot of reading and research on the other sites for future reference.

I don't think there's such a thing as too much info. It'd be yet another source.

The more involvement by our Scandanavian and European friends (opening up avenues regarding Myna pump tuning, injectors, access to those items, intercooling, etc.) the better. I'm not sure what the best way to make that connection is, but user traffic and info. offered are key factors. Multiple sites may dilute that traffic. The superturbodiesel site might be a great clearing house for that information since there's no doubt to the intent.

The more traffic there is, the more likely there'd be interested parties in gaining access to items not currently available here or there'd be a large enough base to contract custom part runs or machine work that would otherwise be out of reach to most owners.
