1995 E300D Fuel Leak
hello All
Been a while since Ive been on the board. My 1995 E300D W124 leaks fuel when I first start. Been having a rough time starting it since its been in the 20's in New York. Doent seem leak as bad when it warm. Started some time ago and seems to come and go,told it may be a return line and that fuel is only leaking when its bypassing the pump. Question: 1) I replaced fuel filter and got air in system is there a bleeder valve on this car, I had too pull injectors and bleed each one, not good Question 2) Is there an overflow,on the return side that im missing, Cant seem to find a leak in the line so im thinking cloged filter ? Question 3) are there filters and or connectors on the return side that could be clogged and causing an overflow condition upon startup? Any help would be appreciated Tom Wagner 1995 E300D 1990 E300 |

Following the fuel filter change, you should fill the new filter with fuel and then install it. The 95 purges air from the system when you hold the starter on for 30 seconds or so. There was no reason you should have had to pull the injectors. Also, make sure both o-rings on the prefilter are new. When I replace my fuel filter (and prefilter) I always do a diesel purge too. The engine starts easily with hardly any hesitation - due to very little air in the system. Hope this helps.
Leaking fuel may be from old o-rings on the fuel shut off valve - o-rings can be replaced, but it is a pain. New valve costs like $90. Leaking fuel may also be from old/brittle return lines. Mine were original when I replaced them at around 190,000. Every one broke into little pieces when I removed them. Leaking delivery valve seals may also be the reason for the leak. O-rings there also need to be replaced.
