Turn Signal Instrument Cluster Lights After Heater Core R&R
Hello All,
I just got the heater core back into the '87 300SDL 200K. Trial 1 - I put all of the electrical stuff together WITHOUT hooking up the switches in the center console. Everything worked except the turn signals, which I believe is because I didn't have the hazard switch installed. Took her for a spin and had plenty of heat, all vac doors worked, and no coolant smell!!! Pretty happy Trial 2 - Light bulbs for the instrument cluster came in so removed the cluster and installed bulbs. Put the cluster back in and due to over conficence and the snow storm here in Ohio did not run a test. I also installed the switches in the front center console. Drove it to work this AM..... With the headlights off everything looks normal - gauges work. Turn the headlights on and 1. Tach and speedo do not work. Other gauges are pegged. 2. Left blinker light is lit and the high beam light is lit (high beams not on). 3. Flip on right turn signal and the left blinker flashes - not the right one. 4. Flip on left turn signal and neither turn signal flashes and the left light is still lit but the instrument illumination lights flash. Could not see if the gauges moved since it was dark. 5. Outside the turn signals work like they should and the high beams come on as they should. What did I mess up ? Is it possible to mess up the plugs in the back of the cluster? The only other wires I can think of are those connected to "screw plugs" attached to the air distribution box (I labeled them but...). However, I don't know what they do. Thanks Richard
