1984 300D turbo diesel defroster defogger element

Just had a new rear glass and gasket replaced on my car is there any way to tell if the defroster element is working without snow or ice on the glass, does the glass get warm to the touch?

The glass will not get warm to the touch, but you can take a bowl of hot water and put it on the parcel shelf and see if the defroster works. I've done this!
