Yes, it is a Garrett GT2056V VGT from a 2004 Liberty CRD. The '05 turbo is the same, but with a 5th mount hole I think.

Can you do something that will replace the POS Air Cleaner mount on the 617? I'm tired of the thing breaking...

Of course, if I had a way to replace the oil sump or whatever it is, I'd go with a direct KN filter on the turbo.....but all those kits are not in the range of disposable income that I will shift to the car..

Valve adjustment wrenches

I was looking at the most economical valve adjustment wrenches for the 65-85 year non hydraulic lifter model mercedes diesel (I own a 84 300d) and couldn't believe how much they cost. Plus they don't even nest together and the head of the wrenches are too thick for there own good. I've put together a really nice tig welded 14mm wrench set (2) for $40 shipped. Can't beat that. Email me if you are interested.
p.s. the head of my wrenches are leveled to the proper thickness. No groove necessary because that makes the wrenches prone to slip.

Any ideas? Here's all I could come up with so far with .1875 stainless

Can you machine a block and crank and head to make an OM617 based v10 ?

oil sump? I believe you are referring to the air/oil separator, get one off a 240D, late 123 chassis, it will fit right on the oil drain tube with some home made bracket work (not difficult) you can see it and the K&N filter attached directly to the turbo inlet on this post:
Air Intake Mod....
The separator could go for little or nothing off a wrecked car, new they were about $65 from the dealer (something like 5 or 6 years ago so certainly more now) and the RU1000 cost me about the same back then. Someone posted that the RU1000 was not available anymore but I haven't verified that. A car parts place that can special order it could determine whether its still made and how much but I've seen knock-offs that were very similar. I bracketed the flat fron side of the filter to my thermostat housing for stability.

How much are those VNT adapters going for?

Few ideas, lot of work but might sell big:

OM617 serpentine retrofit w/automatic tensioner. Trick would be finding a V-belt long enough to be used as a serp. Otherwise new pulleys all around.

X2 on the OEM OIL filter delete/relocation plate

How about a high output alternator adapter. Something big, maybe a Sprinter?

Can you CNC? I might have you make a few injection mold masters.

Off the top of my head, plastic H6024 headlight housings which accommodate Bosch bi-xenon projectors + integrated turn indicator (ala E-Klasse models over the last eight years)

Another injection project: vented ABS headlight doors. I've already ripped the cracked translucent plastic off my headlight bezels and it looks bad-ass. But no functionality. A little more air in the engine bay can't hurt.

Also CNC, aluminum door handles (anodized/powdered black) to replace the (mostly aged) fibrous plastic ones?

Billet shift knobs.

Okay no more free ideas. Let me know if you're interested in making these or collaborating.

You can already get 80 and 120amp alternators off Saabs that are bolt-in. Many electrical shops could rewind them for even higher output.

hmmm.....maybe I'm missing something here.

What would you need a V-belt for in a Serpentine conversion?

In any case, call this a 2nd-vote for a serp-conversion kit for the 617 !

You need a condom dispensor to match your TP dispensor.

How thick can your water jet cut? Do you have sheet metal tools? Is your water Jet CNC? Email me, Ive got some project that would require 10-20 pieces cut its about 1/16 steel. I have a CNC mill too, but no free time. The water jet would be better for this, or laser.

Thanks.

I definitly second the suggestion for an adaptor bracket to replace the R4 compressor with something more modern (any idea or which compressor would be a good candidate for this?).
An air-intake box to fit under the fender would also be nice (mostly to free space around the turbo).
Another nice fabrication project would be a dry-sump/oil filter assembly to replace the oil filter housing.
Finally... the ultimate fabrication job (dream on dude!!!) a cross-flow head for the 617 with it corresponding intake assembly (this is as unlikely than the V10 proposed above).

Seconding a A/C compressor bracket to replace the r4. Maybe a Seltec Universal compressor?

Reason being that if you can just make up a few fancy tensioners, idlers and so on..there is no need to replace the V-belt pulleys. Otherwise every single pulley will need to be changed. Kind of a pain in the butt if you ask me, but if the pulleys can be made efficiently and cheaply enough..why not?
