Hmm! Interesting. Do I even have an ARV?
I'll have to check my FSM - I have an 84 and it's not a cali model, so I was under the impression that only the 85 non-cali got an ARV. Can anyone else confirm/deny this?

my 84SD has the ARV. AFAIK it`s a ca. car? my 85 300D being a kaili kar HAD the ARV also.
replace the rubber seals. If they are hard they might be original. they get cooked by the engine heat along with all rubber parts under the hood. Charlie ☺ my 2¢

My factory service manual doesn't seem to say anything about my car having an ARV, so I am going to assume I don't. For now, I think my plan will be to replace those seals, and see where that gets me.
Can anyone else with a Garrett turbo report if they can hear the faint whistle also? Maybe a "certain" amount of whistling is normal... but I (obviously) don't know the answer to that
