Diesel dropped to 1.189 today at the truck stop I buy fuel. Anyone know of a simple inexpensive way to "stock up" on some cheap fuel before the winter drives up prices again??

I wish it was that cheap here in Orlando. Diesel has pretty much remained unchanged in price. still paying 1.39 to 1.49 even with the 87 unleaded at 1.22. I asked why diesel was so high and the manager said it cost more to buy.
What a bunch of BS!
That's where they make up for the profit loses on 87 octane.

I wish I could get a few thousand gallons to deposit in my own tanks to avoid getting ripped off by the local ripp-off stations. To bad diesel has such a short shelf life.
Regards,
Bryan

Buy some 55 or 60 steel or plastic barrels and an electric fuel pump to transfer the fuel between the barrels and your car. If you want to get a lot more, get a 275 fuel oil tank.

Three years ago when fuel was low priced, I bought 8 barrels and filled them but now they all empty. I should have bought 8 or 16 more. If you can find reefer fuel it is even less.

In New York......

Here in NY, the price of diesel (where I am) is $1.75. I wish I knew where to get one of these barrels and I wish I had a car to transport them in. Better yet, I wish the Hess truck would just make a stop at my house.

fuel storage

I have a 275 gallon "heating oil" tank sitting on the edge of my driveway that I store bio-diesel in. I also have a 1000 gallon tank that a farmer gave me after he switched over to LP gas to heat his home. I just haven't figured out where I'm going to hide a tank that size here in town...short of building a small shed around it! What did the previous post mean by saying that it has such a short shelf life? How long do you want to keep it around? If you add some biocide ? to it that will keep algae and bacteria from growning in it for well over a year. ( made by racor)The other thing is that you want to keep it as cool as possible (shady area) which will help keep the little buggers from growing in there..Tom

I take care of wife's friends yard, I'm tempted to have her old 250 gal heating oil tank filled up, and siphon off as needed.

Gas in Grand Rapids more than unleaded, I paid 1.35/gal this week. BTW, 22 MPG, mostly with 1/2 city, 1/2 highway miles...

I'm paying $1.659+ here in CT, so anyone paying south of that should consider themselves VERY lucky!

Wow, and I thought $1.479 for Texaco Premium Diesel in PA was a bit steep :|

I've seen a bunch of stations in NJ selling diesel for $1.259. I try to justify a trip "east" every couple weeks or so, but more often than not, we are in my wife's "gasoline" car. I've thought of strapping a couple 5 gallon gas cans to the roof of her wagon, but that would look strange during a long trip

Low 120's in SC. Never got above 135 this summer.

These price differentials are somewhat linked to state tax on fuels. SC's rate is 16 cents/gallon, one of the lowest. Check your own states' rate.

Of course, other factors impact prices as well.

Usually, state fuel taxes are used to build/maintain highways. SC having some problems there (i.e., some highway system improvements being put on hold).

FYI, around Greenville, SC, you can buy regular gas for under 110 right now!

GR_Lou Hey, where did you find diesel at that price? I actually bought some diesel (first time in over a year) at the truck stop at 100th street last week and it was $1.29. Usually that truck stop is the cheapest in the GR area. If not there then the next exit south (Dorr) is pretty low too. That is the only places I like to buy it around GR. Remember that the farther south you go in Mi. the cheaper it gets. I used to wait until I went down to my friend house near the Indiana boarder and buy it just over the state line! Last year when it was over $1.65 up here , it was only $1.05 down there! Tom

I've been buying at Meijer Gas & Shell.

I've been tempted to drive to IN, but the casino in MI city would probably absorb any of the savings!

Still have 1/2 tank, may fill up in Detroit over weekend...seems a little lower. I am disappointed that Diesel is more xpensive than regular. At my first fill up on Memorial day, it was about .15 cheaper than regular.

P.E.H.

I tried your 55 gallon drum trick back in 1978-79 during the second big fuel crunch. I had 4 barrels in my garage that I filled up at work and brought home. Someone called the Fire Marshall and told him I had gas in the garage. When I explained it was just diesel and showed it to him, he was not impressed. He ordered it removed anyway.
