Right Manual for '81 300SD Turbo... am I off my nut?

Hello All,
I am looking for a right & proper manual for a 300SD Turbo Diesel. I have looked high & low and there seems to only be CD's on Ebay & the "HP Books" jobber around. I went to the Haynes site and they don't have it as a choice.
Am I missing something?
Is the 300SD listed in one of the other CE D TD TE E SDL SE, or SL manuals?
Any ideas?
CD? Book? ...
I'm up for buying multiple as long as it doesn't break the bank.
Thanks in advance!
RR

Good Luck!
I'm looking for one too!
They do come up on eBay every once in a while.

My Haynes manual claims to cover all U.S. market Mercedes from 1974-84. Of course, this means they have to be pretty vague and general in order to cover the 107, 114, 115, 116, 123, 126, and the 201. It's better than nothing.

The Haynes manual for my old Lincoln was the same way-20 years worth of various models related only by the fact that they said Lincoln on them. I wish Haynes would limit manuals to one or two platforms and be more specific with them.

For most of the jobs I have done on my 616, 617 engines I have needed both the Haynes and the MB FSM.... the Haynes has better pictures most of the time... but almost totally ignores warnings which the FSM does have... also.... most of our engine parts have at least three iterations... and they don't cover that in the Haynes...

That sounds like the Chiltons manual, not the Haynes.

There is no single manual for the 300SD.

The vehicle requires five individual manuals:

1) W126 Chassis and Body manual
2) OM 617 Service Manual
3) Service Manual, Automatic Climate Control, W126
4) Electrical Troubleshooting Manual
5) Transmission Repair Manual

The first four can be found on e-bay if you're patient and willing to spend some coin. I've yet to see a transmission manual.

I stand corrected, it is a Chiltons. You would think I'd remember that since it sits on my coffee table most of the time.

They are both now owned by the same company and the new Chilton's aren't like the old ones. They are more like the Haynes manuals now

Here's what you do.

Go to http://www.httrack.com/ and download their free program.

Then use it to copy this website onto your computer.

http://www.pauldrayton.com/uploadfiles/merc/

It only has the 123 manual but it covers the OM617 turbo diesel engine.

You Guys Rock - Bought Manuals on Ebay

Thank you one and all for great gobs of much needed direction.
So here's what I bought, not sure, but it looks to be some of what Brian Carlton was suggesting, but exactly I dunno. @ $13.90 shipped, I can't ask much, right?:
---(This is a multiple Buy It Now auction, 7 more available @ last check)---
"MERCEDES W126 - 300SEL 380SEL 500SEL WORKSHOP MANUALS"
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MERCEDES-BENZ-W126-300SEL-380SEL-500SEL-MANUALS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247QQcategoryZ34227QQihZ005QQitemZ150158546690QQr dZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V
Maybe a sham? I'd love some feedback, but they're on their way in the mail & on their way to my un-discerning clutches.
Here's a quote from the Buy It Now auction, and then a quote from Brian following it:

Models Covered:
  • 300 SD (1981-1985)
  • 300 SDL (1986-1987)
  • 300 SE (1988-1991)
  • 300 SEL (1988-1991)
  • 350 SD (1991)
  • 350 SDL (1990-1991)
  • 380 SE (1984-1985)
  • 380 SEL (1981-1983)
  • 380 SEC (1982-1983)
  • 420 SEL (1986-1991)
  • 500 SEL (1984-1985)
  • 500 SEC (1984-1985)
  • 560 SEL (1986-1991)
  • 560 SEC (1986-1991
CD Table of Contents:
  • Engine Manual
  • Electrical Troubleshooting Manual
  • Maintenanace Manual
  • Owners Manual
  • Climate Control Manual
  • Chassis and Body Manual
And this from Brian:

Ours is an automatic transmission, I'm not digging into that thing unless global catastrophe up-ends modern society, as it were.

I can only hope this is what it says it is... we shall see...
Thanks Again All!

Be interesting to see what you get for that price.

It might be a typical copy of the original CD's............or it might be a generic manual that is useless.

the CD's on ebay are copies of MB's shop manual cd... it's not terrible, but it has a poor catalog, and the pics are very hard to make out.
getting the paper manuals listed by Brian are the best way... I have never seen them other than when somebody on here wins an auction and posts pics of it...
but I REEEEEEEly want a set.
I keep hoping to open a trunk of one of my parts cars and find a perfect set in there... too bad I keep finding that Haynes 123 manual... anybody want a copy of it?

Hmmmm.....

Anyone have one or more of the exact manuals Brian or anyone else was mentioning? If so, could they gimme the ISBN #'s or some such exact info so I can scour the countryside for a set that may be scattered across the state(s) in Libraries? I'm an old hand @ shooting hundreds of 6 megapixel pictures off in a corner somewhere. They won't have internal links when I PDF 'em, but at least I'd have 'em.

I have all of them but the transmission manual. They don't have any ISBN's. They are produced by M/B of North America..........presumably for their own technicians.

You can find them on e-bay periodically. When you do.........post a link and we'll confirm if they are the real McCoy.
