Diesehead wants to know best Oil for Air Compressor?

I finally bought a nice sized big unit. 7 Hp, 60 gallon tank.
I dont want to put run of the mill Air Compressor oil in it.

Can anyone recommend some tough oil, even the Synthetic kind they use in those big Sandblasting Units that run continuously?

We used straight 30w oil in the compressor where I used to work.

Funny thing is

this unit is worth more than each of the last two cars I bought--

I bought two cars at $500 each, they had shot trannies and I brought them back to life and I use them as daily drivers so I didn't feel that guilty when I bought this thing.

However, why is is by the time you can afford a good tool in your 40's you dont use them as nearly as much when you fiendishly worked hard around the clock with C(%*)p tools in your 20's and 30's

Straight 30w synthetic.
You could even run transmission fluid.

A rrgrassi said what the mfg. specifies is the most correct suggestion.
They make oil for air compressors (Autozone has it) and I believe it is non-detergent oil (for piston type air compressors).
The only Rotary Air Compressors I have experience with used what looks like Dextron ATF.

Amsoil has a couple different weight compressor oils. That is what mine is getting the next time I change it.

I've got a 2 stage 80 gall unit pumps to 175lbs and I use it daily for the past 17 years incl. occasional sandblasting which makes the unit run constantly to keep up. I use straight 30.

I don't think I would start right with synthetic so that the rings can seat. That is the way lawn tractors say to start out........
