Truly obsessive behavior ....
While loosening the ac lines going through the bulkhead to the expansion valve, I managed to dislodge the rubber dam that keeps them snug and keeps engine sounds muffled. Got too late to fix that last night, so I drove my normal commute today listening to every nuance of a 617 as it deals with hills and other challenges. I know this is weird, but I actually was intrigued with the sounds my 617 was making - not too loud to hear the radio, but direct feedback for what I was requesting of it. I always liked the sound of these older diesels, but now I don't have to roll the window down or get out of the car.
Now if I don't have an exhaust leak, maybe I'll 'fix' this and maybe I won't. The 617 does sound sweet!

The people who take my order at drive thru fast food restaurants love the sound of my cars too.
So much so that they ask me to just drive up. The little drive thru speaker must not transfer the diesel quality sound they admire (and wish for)...
