Anyone Replaced Rubber Fuel Filler Neck Grommet?

Well...I've been running B99 for about a year now. The rubber around my filler neck looks good till you look at bottom center of it. I poked my finger through it today. It's melted for lack of a better word.
I used search and found this post for a "diaper" to cover this area...looks like a good idea. But first, I want to replace the rubber grommet. Just wondering is this as a simply DIY?

Thanks all!

It's mind numbingly simple. Pull the old one out, push the new one in. Use a bit of dishwashing liquid to slip it in if it won't do right.

is there some sort of adhesive for this? my old one that is cracked and broken seems to be sort of stuck to the side of the car. does the new one need to be "glued" on as well?

Diapers

The grommet does not need to be glued. It just sticks in place. The "diaper" is a great idea (if I do say so myself ). The diaper is "sacrificial" in that it also rots but is easy and cheap to replace. The material for the diaper is the kind of rubber sheeting that garden shops sell for lining back-yard ponds. You may be able to pick up scraps for free from an installer.

I have also searched (so far unsuccessfully) for a non-rotting diaper material. The existing stuff works well enough and preserves the grommet so that the remaining problem (replacing the diaper) is such a tiny problem that I just didn't get very much worked up about finding a better material.
