83 Temp Gauge Problem

I was examining my instrument cluster to figure out why only half of my instrument light were functioning. When I reassembled it my temp gauge would peak and stay there. (It would peak after it warmed up, or if I turned the lights on). I removed the dash board again and repaired a crack in the circuit board. After doing this, the temp gauges does work, EXCEPT when I use the "high beam" on the head lights. Can anyone tell me why this would only happen on the "high beam?"

Thanks, Brian

temporary ground

Thanks for the help. I was wondering if there was a way to attach a temporary ground to the back of the instrument cluster?

Instrument Cluster

I have an 1983 240D (123 series). I temporarily fixed the problem. I added a ground wire to the back of the fuel gauge and grounded it onto the dashboard sub frame where everything else is grounded. It seems to have worked. I believe it even fixed the fuel gauge which hasn't worked for years. I am hesitant to replace the instrument cluster. What do you do about the odometer reading?

Just swap the spedometers from one instrument cluster to the other.

the fure/oil/temp, spedo, and the tach or clock for the 240 are three seperate units.
