SDL sunroof issues -- oh no another sunroof post!

Hi guys,

I am having an issue with the sunroof on the SDL and have not found the answer via searching.

The issue is that while it retracts and closes properly, the sunroof will not tilt up. I thought it was due to the sunroof seal but after fixing the seal it still does not go up. It makes a lot of noise when I push the 'up' function but does not move. Any ideas on what to look at? Most of the posts have been about the thing not closing or not sliding back, which mine does...

Also, the air deflector does not pop uo or stay up when I push it up. Is there a spring that holds it in the upright and locked position?

Thanks a lot!

Hilfe!

Ok, now the sunroof does not work at all. I can hear the cable moving when i press the switch, but it has broken off the sunroof.

How do I get the headliner off the sunroof to expose the mechanism if the roof is in the fully closed (locked?) position?

Come on all you sunroof gurus help a guy out here!

Its been awhile since I rebuilt mine, but the slides on the side have a mechinism that push's the rear of the roof up for vent. It sounds like two things were happening to yours, either the seal was still holding it, or something is broke.

The new seals are tight, I needed to bang mine in with a block off wood and lube it.

Once you fix it just don't use the vent feature. They will slide forever, vent's what breaks them.

Yeah,

It was sliding nicely untl last week. I had it at my indy and when I got it back the sunroof will not slide back. Of course they never touched it.
I can hear the cable moving so I guess the part that the cable connects to is gone. I just cannot manually open the roof to get the headliner off. Is there a trick to sliding it back?

Thats a problem, I don't know any tricks. As you know you need to slide it back a bit to get the headliner part out, so you can unbolt the panal itself.

what I did to get mine open when converting it over to a manual sunroof was disconnect the motor in the back and push it back from the inside.

there is a cross bar on mine and you can get your fingers on it through the headliner, pushing that back an inch or so will unlock it and if there is no motor on the back of it it should slide right back.

if it does not slide right back all the way, get it back far enough and remove the front part of the headliner and unclip the cable from the front of the sunroof, this should let you just push it open and closed at leisure.

have you checked the condition of the motor and gears in the back? the condition of the sunroof cable?

what had happened with mine was the cable was frozen in the cable housing and it was all I could do to remove it from the housing.

hope I could be of some help and good luck

No, you don't need to unless you have to mess with the cable. Just the headliner thats attched to the sunroof panal, and than remove the panal itself.

Thank you!

This is what I needed. The motor and gears are good. The sunroof worked if I wanted it to slide. It never worked if I wanted it to flip. I can see the cable moving across the headliner so I guess it just broke off the sunroof. If I can get the headliner off the sun roof, I hope I can reconnect the cable.

I cannot feel that crossbar. I have the vent (flip) and slide roof. The headliner is in two pieces. I can barely get my fingers into the slace between the headliner pieces Is this where the crossbar is located? Does anybody have a drawing of the sunroof?

Thanks!!

Joe
