Can anyone explain the origin of this part?

I took this off a '81 300CD that I recently bought for spares. I was told by the previous owner it was imported from Germany, however, the car had US bumpers and lights.

Can anyone explain the origin of this speedo?

It's in kilometers and has no rev counter. It's definitely from a diesel as it has the glow light. I thought it may be Canadian spec as I bought it here in Canada, but I'm sure MB didn't make a Canadian spec seedo in km.

The fine print at the bottom of the speedo is the part number. Somebody should be able to look it up and tell what model(s) it fits.

I see 3 shift points.....

I remember visiting Canada as a kid and noticing the speedometers (and signs) read Kilometers.
