Update your 124 & 201's trunk light switch

One of the nice things about my wife's 1996 E300D (W210) is that the trunk light can be turned off when the trunk is open by simply pulling out on the plunger of the trunk light switch. That is convenient if you want to leave the trunk open for a long time without draining the battery or wish to conduct criminal activity without attracting attention. The part number is 201-820-21-10.

I discovered that my 1987 300D (W124) uses an older version of the same switch without the pop-out feature. Changing the switch is easy -- compress the plastic clips and pull out the old switch, then swap the two wire leads (polarity doesn't matter) and insert the new switch. You may need to loosen the clips that hold the wires to the trunk lid to get some slack.

I don't know what other models this switch may fit. The part number suggests that it also fits the 190 models (W201). It won't work in my 1985 300D (W123) because the trunk light and switch are one single assembly.

This switch also works well for the W124 doors, so you can have the key on and open the door, while disabling the buzzer. Or just keeping the lights off. Works great... Speedy300D, myself, and others have been doing this for many years now. Definitely fits 124 and 201 chassis, not sure what others... would be easy enough to look up in the EPC though.

That's great! It also fits W123 -- I just checked.

Actually, if you get the trunk light switch from a 190E, grab the mounting plastic bracket and install that on your W123. The W123 version has a part of the bracket that prevents the modification to be done. The door jambs are a simple swap, but the trunk will have to be modified from the W201 part as I mentioned.

Now I have 4 of these on my W123 - except the front passenger door - which I'll do soon since I got an extra gray pin switch lying around.

Works on any chassis that use the standard black switches, even on the glove box compartment and in the engine bay (for the alarm that detects if the hood has been opened).
