There is a trick to it. Grab a 19mm socket, a quarter, and a pair of channel locks. Use the quarter on one side and the 19mm on the other to press the bushing in place.

I wonder if this is the same for the bushings on the shifter end of the manual rods? I have this job to do on an "82" 240D that i picked up a while back. I cant believe the PO was driving the car that way
