251,000 miles huh? So with mine at 250,000 I've got less than 1k to go before this happens?!

Mine is on borrowed time though, last fall it got away from me and overheated, my hoses pressurize fairly quickly now too, but no trace of exhaust in coolant and its not using coolant either. I suspect I have a very small headgasket leak and/or head crack.

Astute of sixto to request photos of chambers five and six. The pattern of residue on that number five chamber is not good. The residue should be basically spread more evenly rather than only on the one side. If not a crack between the pre chamber and valve seat I do not know what it could be.

Everytime I hear or see problems like this it makes me want to shy away from those engines. There is akways a conflict though. I would also like the additional power they can produce. Old story of I want my cake and eat it too I suppose. Too bad if it is indeed a crack

I'd send it out to Metric to have it checked over and freshened up. No point in putting it back on if its cracked.

I could be wrong because a cylinder burning coolant would have ash and other discolorations.

I agree.

#5 is cracked between the prechamber and one of the valves. Typical failure point. Sorry........it's not fixable without a replacement head.

I see it now! #5 prechamber tip is clean where the others have build-up. Could be a similar effect to water injection in a gasser to 'steam' off carbon.

I agree with the suspected crack in the #5 hole. Also, it is not the original head gasket, it has definately been off before.

notice how clean the PC is on #5... you had water spraying into the chamber cleaning off the hot PC. either that or it is a replaced PC... I think I see a crack there too... but it could be just oil marks on the head.
I do not like the water marks on the head around the passages. it looks like rust from the block is accumulating on the gasket material.
sorry.

I had a feeling it had been off before! I found two missing nuts on the exhaust side and worse of all, the threads on the inside of the side rail pins were both stripped.

Brian,

Are you talking about the chip at the 2:30 position of the intake valve? I didn't see that until taking a close look at the close-up. I believe there's a cooling jacket in the head between cylinders.

Here's what I'm looking at.........between the intake valve and the prechamber.............and I believe it is definitely a crack:
