300TD Door Lock Problem , just happened HELP
I have a 1985 300 turbo diesel, 123 body
ALL doors locked fine and it shut off perfect, yesterday I found a ground squirrel under the hood, on top of the battery and at first it wouldn't shut off and I found 1 line loose which was the one on top by the fuse box, pushed it back on and it shut off, and the doors locked, this morning when it shuts off its slightly delayed and none of the other 3 doors lock now where do I start to look, they dont even lock after its started when I push down the drivers door lock. and there is a slight delay at shutoff, maybe 2 secs when before there was none Please tell me where to start looking Thanks so much Last edited by dieseldude84; 06-15-2008 at 12:36 PM. Damn squirrels! I just posted the fact that '86 marked the year MB started losing off the engine compartment with underbody panels, and that helps keep varmints out (as well as fluids from going on the ground).
You probably have another loose vacuum line near the fuse cover, there are several of them that come into a Y shaped tee and there's a yellow three ported valve assy that might be loose. Keep looking in that general area. A Mityvac would be useful. And you can use golf tees to temporarily plug the ports on the rubber tee (Y-shaped) hose fitting to remove the rest of the vac system (door locks, etc) while doing the troubleshooting process (that I can't help you with!)

I just went thru all of them and didnt see any that were loose or unconnected, I pushed in all coneections and still didnt see anything that would look like it was the problem. I found the yellow and the yellow stripe lines and followed them back and all connections seem to be tight. one time when I was in the car testing it , I did get all the locks to go down by just pressing the drivers door although they went down very slow and came up I think 1 time and then wouldnt go again, I also checked and the trunk or the gas cap arent locking either, so it seems thats its a main feed or something, I dont think its the pump itself, the engine does shut off, just takes 2-3 secs ?
Is it safe to assume that it is under the hood ? the trans shifts fine , NO doors work and the engine is a little slow to turn off where do I look now ? REMEMBER, it worked fine yesterday, and always before thanks again all mitch

Dude - There are TONS of vacuum related posts - not much hasn't been said. Do some searching.
Do you have a mighty-vac? It will be difficult to isolate the problem without one. Suppose you could use golf tees to isolate different vacuum consumers - HVAC, Shut-off valve, transmission to try to determine where the problem is. There are many good posts. Go find 'em; you'll need to understand this system as you'll have more vacuum problems in the future... guaranteed!
