I want to see the tach from the first picture! Ha, Ha... I know the car... I believe you. Did you know you could go ABOVE 4500 if needed??? I wouldn't advise it, but you can.

Randall Kress & Turbodiesel

You two aren't the only one's tearing up Rt 80, I myself used to fly down 15, 80 then onto 280 on my way down to where I used to work in Harrison. I used to leave the Newton area at 5:30 AM and be at work in forty five minutes. I was driving a maroon 82 300D-T, and was that one fast, somebody tuned that one right!

I know people must have been thinking to themselves "Hey, isn't that car like twenty years old thats passing me by like I'm sitting still." *It was a good feeling.*

Now I'm working in Rockaway, exit 35. Now that I'm a lot closer to home, my driving is a lot more sane.

The car that I'm driving now is an 81 300D, grey with a brown interior. I'll be looking out for ya's...

I used to work in Montville (exit 47 off 80 AND 287). I used to commute from south plainfield (exit 3 off 287) to montville every day (50 miles).

At lunch i would TEAR UP route 80 to exit 30 to visit Heinz at roxbury foriegn auto on 46 and TEAR BACK down to montville. 80 is an awsome road to speed on, so is 287 from exit 50 to the thruway. I have doubled the posted speed limit (65) a few times there.

I'll be looking for you guys, too!

seems all us speeders are arantrecite grey with palimino interior, i wonder if that means anything?

John

Lowsy diesel milage

When you pull over sometime, check the overflow lines on the injectors -- they are the black fabric covere ones. I have to replace mine every couple years, they cost a bunch (get the real stuff, don't use rubber vacuum line, it swells up!). You can dump an awful lot of fuel on the ground if these leak, as the extra fuel from the injector pump can drain out, too. My 220D gained about 8 mpg last time I changed mine!

The injectors will be wet and stink of diesel fuel if they are leaking, and they will be lose if really bad. Get new ones at a dealer or a real Mercedes shop -- the cost about $0.70 per inch. You need to push them on with a pair of needle nosed pliers, and don't forget the plug in the short one on the end. Pull the plug out and re-use it.

My brother's 87 300SDL gets about 28 mpg with the AC on at 75.

And buy your diesel at a truck stop -- the local gas station appears to be selling winter grade fuel. All three diesels (220D, 300SDL, and Volvo 740 turbodiesel) got lowsy milage and make huge amounts of smoke on it!

Yeah, I'll be on the look out for you guys as well. People are amazed how I pull away at 80 mph on the open road. These cars can eat any SUV, and almost any 4 banger/small V6 family car. Hey, I even gave a new M5 a run in the twisties and city streets of Montvale NJ. Theyre great cars...

Oh, about the fuel line. Got the head re-done in my car about two years ago. Get the car back and its leaking again! So I think its oil, but really it was the injection stop plug! The rubber one burst so I got the new rubber and steel one instead. Problem solved! I would highly recommend getting the factory modified plug. Its rubber, metal and braded! Beats the plastic stock one.
