82 300D - Broken Motor Mount, bolt out of alignment - need hints!

I'm trying to replace the driver's side motor mount on my 300D. It broke and the 8 MM bolt on the bottom isn't lined up with the hole, so I can't get a wrench on it. Any hints on what to do?

Lots of posts on replacing these, but I didn't see this problem in any of them.

The passenger side mount was torn in two on mine. I had to jack the motor up until the bolt was lined up with the hole in the cross member.

Jack up a little, pry bar a little... it takes a little work and wiggling, but it'll line up.

Thanks, I tried that, but it didn't work. Somehow I need to get the bolt to move forward about 1/4"

Ok, I'm going back out to try that some more. I guess I'm on the right track anyway...

Thanks for the quick responses. Jacking it up didn't work, but a big pry bar and a wedge did. Took about a minute into my second session. Unfortunately instead of doing this in my nice cool garage with all my tools, lights etc, I'm in the blazing sun in a gravel parking lot, so I think my brain is a little fried

I get like that more often than I like. Garage is full, so I am relegated to doing maintenance in the gravel. I need a bigger garage, so I can fill that one too.. lol

Mine's 1500sf and I still end up in the driveway some of the time. I'm trying really hard to keep enough room by the door to work on a car now. Of course there is a stove an a sideboard there now.....

Frustration!

Got the mount out without too much difficulty. Now I have some strong opinions on the easiest way to do this and a few things I would like to add to the descriptions others have posted, but I'll do that later.

Now the problem is I can not get the threads on the 8mm bolt to catch. It came out nice and smoothly so I have no reason to think anything is stripped. The threads on the bolt look fine. I am frustrated!

The use of a long tapered punch shoved up from the bottom through the bolt hole some times helps to align things.
When I did mine I had a problem getting the bolt in as the car itself was not jacked up level and it pulled the engine to one side.
I ended up having chase engine mount threads with a tap. When I leveled the car out I was able to align the holes with the punch and the bolt went in OK.

I used a big screwdriver to align and had to raise and lower the engine a little bit. You can grab onto the alternator or compressor (depending on which side of the car you are working on) and kinda nudge it a big, BUT BECAREFUL.

It helps immensely to have two people, one under and one on top. It saved me some frustration.
