trip meter\odometer problem...Help, please!
OK, I'm in the process of selling my daughters' 82 240D, and today I drove 45 miles to let a few people from St. Louis check it out. Up till now, everything on the dash works fine(Speedo, odo and trip). It has 196,308 last time I checked it when I got to the Home Depot parking lot. I rode as one guy test drove it. Nothing bad, just a test drive. Next guy, same thing. But about 5 minutes into the drive, they guy notices the odomotors' not moving. The trip still has 49.9 from the trip up there and the first test drive. We hit the trip and it clears back to 0, then goes up to .9 and stops. As long as it's turning, the odo is working, but it keeps stopping at .9, and the odo stops when it stops. Clear it, it starts again, till it gets back to .9(?) What the heck is going on?? I advertised this, with pride, that everything works, then it screws up on the first looker. The second guy probably would have bought it, but he felt "uncomfortable" with the idea that is was supposed to be working, as in, i might be lying about the actual mileage. Ouch!
