Bio-diesel question
I just bought a 85 300d turbo and want to run it on bio diesel. I tried the search feature on here but didn't find what I was looking for. So my question is- what parts do I need to replace before I run the car on B99? Also should this be done before or after the first tank is put through it?
Thanks! |

Replace all the rubber hoses in the engine compartment that carry fuel, the little injector return hoses, and the three jumper hoses under the fuel tank. Search "viton" for more information.

The vitton hose wont stick to the injector nozzle tip like the natural rubber German hoses in our cars,so there are some little clamps that secure the vitton line tightly, you may also want to consider just replacing with oe and keeping an eye on them,in my own personal experience ive never needed vitton because i keep an eye on things, but then again keep an eye,ive seen a brand new hose give way after just a full tank of b100.
Good luck

Viton is a brand name, not a type of hose. Most any modern fuel hose will stand up to biodiesel for years.

Forum member jadavis has them and o-rings too. I think his site is fryerpower.com I got mine from him and he sends the clamps too, but I didn't use them.

Like Forced stated Viton is a brand name of hose, which is made by Dupont.
www.GreaseWorks.org sells viton hose kits for all MB models. Unfortunately viton isn't cheap even if you buy it in bulk, so the kits are a little spendy. I've had one of their kits on my wagon for three years with no issues what so ever. I also have never had problems with the injector return lines leaking. Changing hoses before running biodiesel isn't crucial. It will eventually eat through the rubber lines, but it won't happen immediately. It may take up to a year. But you will eventually need to change them. The other thing you will want to have on hand are some extra fuel filters. Biodiesel is a good solvent, it will clean out your fuel system, which will clog your fuel filters. So be ready to change those out a few times after you start running biodiesel.
