Reminds me of the F150/617 buildup I did for my EX-boss. Deathtrap.

We had our Ford slipyoke from the original 3-on-the-tree Ford tranny welded up to the original Mercedes 3-finger flange from the tailpiece of the driveshaft. Then milled an aluminum "flexdisc" spacer to mate the two flanges up. Two piece driveshaft with a slipyoke on the rear portion.

The driveshaft was all Ford U-Joints.

B&M floor shifter with custom bracket made for the trans.

Manual gauges, NO SPEEDO. Fun to drive!

Hauled around a custom oil tank for slurping WVO from resturants, that we then turned to bioD. It was aptly named the "Suck Truck".

Lost my job over that truck due to a blown motor and driveshaft which fount it's way off of the MB transmission tailpiece.

The Toyota motor he took out was probably better than the 617.

That looks familiar. I've got the AC compressor from that OM617 out in my garage.
Guys name is Kirk and contrary to what the truck looks like he is one smart dude! He had that engine sitting out in his yard for awhile until he found that truck. It came with a bad engine.
I went over to his house a few times back in 2005 and he helped me with my white wagon AC.
Here is how the truck looked when this project was first started. He's had it since 2005.

He had an '85 wagon with 3rd row seat {wife's}and a nice 300CD {his}.
Like I said, a very smart dude, but I wouldn't want to get near that truck.....

I have a friend who built a diesel Toyota 4x4 pickup in the late '70s, when Toyota didn't make a 4x4 (at least in the US market). He used a 220D engine, Jeep driveline, added a turbo from a Corvair, lift kit he made (and adapters, he worked at a machine shop), blew the 2.2 and used a 616 engine, ... looked factory he did such a quality job. This one is just a hack job.

The driveshaft adapter is interesting. Is that a stock part off of something?

Perhaps the exhaust comes up like that so he won't start a grass fire.

Cool hack job. I'd love to hack something like that together some day. What a blast it would be. Would love to drive this one to see what its like.

I have a few "ranch rigs" I play around with here on the property, It is indeed fun, I took an 89 GMC 4wd W/454 (I got it for the engine ), welded an old 70's push bar to the frame over the bumper, reinforced with angle iron, and various random ideas, went out after I got bored one day and rammed down an old 12" trunk oak tree like nothing, that was cool. Poor truck gets all kinds of beat up, but for $150 it's a fun toy to experiment with so long as I protect the engine, the sole piece I intend to use from it one day.
