oil leaking down block...

there is a slow but steady leak down the manifold side of my 300sd's 617. It is visable from the top of the head and down, however the valve cover gasket is clean with no leak, I have a small amount of oil in my exhaust, nothing very visible. I am hoping this is not a head gasket leak, no oil in coolant or vise versa, could my turbo oil lines be leaking? No significant oil loss, this leak is very very slow..

Advice?

Pull the air filter housing and look at the turbo oil supply line. I've seen holes rubbed in this line from running with busted air filter housing mounts.

don't overlook the fuel return lines. if there is a leak of diesel fuel, it will dilute the oil gunk that is always on these motors, and appear to be an oil leak.

this is all the oil and EGR feces that sits in the intake mani. When heated, it begins to drip and ooze down that side - the whole side right?

take off your mani when you are bored one weekend - clean it, and disable EGR and set up an oil seperator from the valve cover to keep it that way (clean)

It's not the turbo drain tube is it?

Tis not the drain tube and doesn't have an egr, although my breather hose is greasy perhaps I ought to plumb it to the road and see if this makes a difference...

The original intake-exhaust manifold gasket (it is all one piece for both manifolds) has a design flaw that allows oil accumulated in the intake manifold to leak through the gasket "sandwich" to the outside of the manifold-head junction. The oil comes from blowby mist that is routed to the air intake for combustion.

The current part includes a metal sealing ring all the way around each manifold port, and properly seals the port completely.

The job to replace this manifold gasket can be combined with a replacement of the turbo drain tube seals and o-rings to dry up that side of the engine. You pull the exhaust manifold with the turbo still attached to it, and the two-piece drain tube separates at the junction with the o-ring.

So consider that the oil may be coming from a leaking manifold gasket.
