for welding the interior of the car, just keep a spray bottle filled with water to spray out small fires, it works well. and after your done and the weld has cooled, either use a rust-stopping paint to cover the weld, or some por15. You will want to have a fan or something going when your welding the insides of the car up, because welding creates ozone, wich is damaging to plastics (if exposed to it for a long time) but just dont trap it in there you should be fine.

Sounds like this will turn out to be a good project.
The 722.5/722.6 (5-speed auto) is starting to sound appealing. Questions: How much punishment can they take? Can they take stiff launches like a stick can? Fifth speed ratio? I plan to take this baby to the track on weekends (and the occasional street race, RICER KILLER! )

If you want to do some racing I'd advice you to get a 190e 16v with a bad engine.
Stock 606 turbo is 177hp. Maxing out the pump+vnt+intercooler+propane+water injection to suppress the propane from detonating might give you a 250hp light car. You might have trouble putting that power down though. Under hard acceleration, I can brake the tires loose while changing from 1st to 2nd. In the wet I can brake the rear loose in 2nd just by mashing the throttle pedal.

I can understand why you would suggest the 190e, and for all practical reasons its a great idea.
I'm just hooked on the W123 for some reason -edit- What model is that five speed manual of yours? I've been desperately searching for a model # to do more research on them. The 2.5 is the 602, correct? And if I'm not mistaken, 602 603 and 606 share transmission bellhousing patterns.

The one with the 2.5 turbo engine is w201.128. I don't know about the 5 sp though.

Has lots of goodies inside, ported cylinder head, ceramic coatings (2 different on cylinder head and 2 different in pistons), Arrow - steelrods, stronger crankshaft bolts, new intake manifold, Mynadiesel modified pump with 7 mm elements and few special parts. Also has new valves, precombustion chambers, injector tips, stiffer valvesprings, new bearings etc etc. Engine is still to be finished, so you can effect to what is is going to be like. Also the pump can be modified to fit to your requirements. With these parts the engine is good for some REAL power. Says nothing about the supercharger fitted to the engine.
Which, as it is my understanding, is what makes it a superturbodiesel.

No. A supercharger has nothing to do with anything, "super" is just a description of the engine's capabilities.
Just like superman decribes a much more powerful than normal man. The Cummins people call their power engines "Bombed", the Mercedes people have come to call their power engines "Superturbo". su·per (spr) n. 1. IIRC the fins call an engine a superturbo if it has 100+hp / liter.

Oh really.
I thought the colloquialism "superturbo" stemmed from the Finns compound supercharged and turbocharged diesels. As saying "Supercharged turbocharged diesel" is just tedious.
