I am just in love with your engine compartment.
you REALLY have to take some more angles and put some HIGH res photo's on photobucket.com for us to look over.
WOW, just, WOW!
look at the hoses! the MC reservoir! the Windshield washer tank... just AMAZING!
really, park in some good sun, and take some good 5 MPX shots and publish them!
just WOW!

Will do. I'll try to get to it this week or next weekend. I am still getting caught up from being away for a week. The problem is that by the time I get home and walk the dog with my daughter, the sun is setting. I'll watch the weather and look for a good opportunity.

I spent some time with my black 84 300D this Saturday. Washed and waxed her. I was afraid she might be feeling left out and dejected.

So....how does a new 123 feel and sound when "new"? I bet the ride and performance is similar to an older, well-maintained 123. Let us know.

Congrats btw.

Perfect W123 Diesel > some woman ....
Jim, I consider my MB cars as pretty special. They are great works of engineering and art rolled into one. And I would be very sad if one of them were defaced or abused or wrecked. But when it comes down to it, they are merely a wonderful combination of metal, rubber, fabric, fluids and what have you. They are not forever but nonetheless I will enjoy them for the marvelous cars that they are.

My wife is another story. There is only one of her. And our relationship is forever. I made that promise and will do everything I can to uphold it. I was reluctant to bring up this purchase with her but after thinking about it for a few days felt compelled to do so. I didn't know how she would react, but when I told her about what a rare and incredible find this car is, she understood. She is not into cars like I am, but trusted my knowledge and instincts. She knew it meant a lot to me and was supportive. That is why she is so special. But even if she had said she was against the purchase, we would have talked, she would have listened, and perhaps for some reason it would not have made sense. I would have dropped the issue. This car did not mean more to me than her, and I knew that going into it.

I know that not everyone has been blessed with a wonderful wife and wonderful marriage, but I believe these are things worth working at and working hard for. And they don't work well and don't last if things made of metal and plastic get in the way.

Anyway, I don't fault you for your honest opinion and perspective. I appreciate your frankness. But I thought it would bring a little balance to know that there is another way to look at it.

All the best to you.

Excellent, excellent find. If I was in your shoes, I'd have paid the $9500 too. As the current owner of a one-owner 64k mile 1982 300D, I completely understand your newfound enjoyment. Take care of it, drive it often, have fun with it. All of my low-mileage Mercedes still feel tight - amazing for cars that are pushing 26 years old.

Congrats and enjoy it. Great catch.

Congrats btw.
The controls are nice and tight. The shifter and the turn signal are most apparent as these are probably used the most. The engine is quieter and the idle is more even. But in my 84, which lived in Texas and then Atlanta, the hood insulation had been taken out, I presume to help let out the heat. So that is one reason for it being louder. Also, the ride is firm but the bumps are dampened better in the 85.

One thing that my 84 has way over the 85 is the subtle rich aroma of the aged leather interior. You just don't get that from MB Tex. I just love that smell when I get into the 84.
