I noticed that the old alt is actually a Bosch reman. Now I am wondering how old this reman is. I pulled the tag off and am wondering if there is a way to tell from the numbers on the tag. Of course theres no date. That would be too easy.

I had a bearing go band in mine over 1 year ago. The Alternator had a sticker that it was rebuilt by Bosch North America.
The bad front Shaft Bearing was Made in China.
Evidence that Bosch is not using quality parts.

I had trouble loosening the Long Skinny Screws that hold the Alternator together.

Any place you can source that sells parts to alternator/starter rebuilders. I think they were inexpensive when I purchased them.

There is a chance any local rebuilder in your area might have some on hand. Two sizes are available for these older bosh units. Considered a pretty common part I think.

FYI

Just thought I'd share this. The 80a alt I got from eBay (Eagle Auto Electric) finally failed yesterday. I guess thats not too bad for 3 years of use. I'm checking him out again for a replacement. Meantime, I plan to have the old one repaired and keep it as a spare.

How many miles was that? I put a Bosch Rebuild I got off a Saab at the junk yard on my car about 4 years/60k ago and its still going strong....paid $20 for it....and it was nearly brand new.

Alternators only last if they are a quality rebuild (german). Its well worth the $165 from fastlane since they last 10+ years/100k+
