SDL transmission not shifting

1986 SDL thats not shifting. I can go about 30 MPH max. I checked the vacuum tee'd out of the Brake booster. 22 HG running, stopped 18 HG held 10 minutes so I disconnected. Is this too much vacuum? Overboost vacuum hose was shot so I changed it and all the others near it. Fluid and filter serviced. I drove it 400 miles in August, it didn't want to shift until warm, now no shifting. Thanks Shawn

22 is good and where its supposed to be. if you had too much it wouldnt be different, if you had no vacuum it would just shift hard.

last trans service was done when?

Look underneath the go pedal. There will be a button switch under there. Find the pigtail underneath the button switch and disconnect the pigtail.

Drive the vehicle again and report back.

What's the history of this vehicle? When did the problem begin and how did it begin?

One other thing to attempt is to disconnect the Bowden cable from the throttle linkage. You'll find that connection on the driver's side near the bottom of the oil filter...........about four inches in front of the oil filter. There is a ball and socket joint there. Pop the ball off the socket and drive the vehicle. See if it shifts.

SDL history is this: I bought the car in Aspen, CO for $2000. Car was inpounded by the city because of unpaid parking/ inpound fees. The seller(EBAY) disclosed the shifting problem. This car has the complete tool kit, mats, all the clamps are MB everything is there. No body damage or rust. I'll untook the Bowden cable and drive again. Problem began after driving it 400 miles, it was shifting good after it warmed up.Now no shift into 4th. Thanks Shawn

You're out of options.........the problem is likely in the valve body............accumulated corrosion or foreign material.

At this point, it wouldn't hurt to try Trans-X...........you never know what it will do for you.

It can........but, you're out of your element on that task. You really need a surgically clean environment with the knowledge to remove the various springs, balls, and pistons.

It's possible to purchase a remanufactured valve body if you want to take a flyer on it..........but, I wouldn't just on my internet advice.

You have a problem with your valve body, oil pump or your seals in the tranny which needs to done at tranny specialists or shop. I do have tranny shops in my area but they wont touch mercedes tranny. So ask around in your area and see who will work on them.
