Good running and driving Mercedes diesel wagon, 4 cylinder (and yes i counted!) with automatic transmission, getting between 35-40 mpg. White-over-blue repaint. 163k miles. No major mecanical issues, engine and trans in good shape. Body is excellent, no rust. Blue interior is fair with excellent seats. No radio, has crank windows and sunroof (works well, does not leak). Has AC but belt is missing.
Has surprising amount of get-up-and-go for a little 4-banger diesel, much more than my '84 190D/5-speed (but i like my 45-50mpg!). It needs some minor attention (vacuum shifter issue, AC & PS belts, a good detailing job).
Will be around on weekends to show it.
Located in Sebastopol, Sonoma County.

The vacuum line to the brake booster looks like it's under tension.

What an odd repaint decision. Such a shame its not the original color.

Interesting car but it seems a stretch to believe 35 to 40 mpg!

Kindof discredits the seller.

White may be an effort to maximize cooling ability of ac.

A regular 240D can only get in the low 30's on a good day, so there is no way a 240TD can get better mileage. It weighs more.

"Has AC but belt is missing." Yeah, right. Missing a lot more than that, I bet.

Wagons have a lesser drag co-efficient, and all things being equal get better mileage than coupes or sedans. The difference is nominal however. I'd love a 240TD just for the better mileage. (over my 300TD's)

Do you have any data to back that up? It does not seem to make sense. The wagons have a large vertical surface at the back...not great for aerodynamics.

I've read in somewhere several times; also MB engineers when testing the w123 on the track used the wagons as they were faster and more stable. Yes there is a large back surface, but look how slanted it is. The newest style wagons have the same slant- the last body style was not nearly as slanted.
