Gone and done it again.....!

As if I really NEEDED another.....

(realistically I do need it--At least That's what I'm telling The One That Must Be Obeyed....)

Put a low bid on fleabay for a 1981 300D, fully expecting to be outbid....

BUT I wasnt!

Here it is--http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220267612991&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=012

So, Now on Wednesday, I'm gonna catch the train over to the other side of the country and drive the beast home--Wish me luck.....

Out of curiosity, What are the chances of the A/C working, and if not, whats the most common faults for A/C on an old (and probably very tired) W123 300D

Weird seeing the RHD. I like the headlight wipers.

I think the compressor failing is most common. Do the euro models have the same R4 compressor? Or did they just gift those GM parts to us over here?

To be honest, I have no idea what the system is like yet....It may well work--Allegedly, its owner has never tried it--Hard to believe....

The pic opf the engine doesn't show much apart from an extra pipe or two over s non a/c car...

Looking forward to picking it up, but not the 5 hour train trip!....

Good deal. Take heart in the fact that if it were Amtrak, it would be a 5 day train trip.
Low refrigerant would be possible. Do you still use R-12 over there or is plain British air cold enough?

With your great and huge land, You'll NEED 5 days to cross it

R12 was used as a refrigerant here but was outlawed sometime in the 80's I believe, not really sure, but do remember a huge fuss around that time about R12 and aerosol propellants, and ozone holes ....

Does somebody know what the cost of that car would be in American greenbacks?

It would be easy to change the oil filter housing gasket. Of all the MB's I have bought and sold I have kept my '81 model because it fits my commute the best. Change out the rear end to a 3.07 and you will get an honest 30 mpg with it.

Has anyone ever imported a car to the states? I've seen it done before, 20 year old rule, right?

I wonder how much the boat trip over costs?

IIRC - 25 years to get by the worst of EPA & DOT requirements.
