190 5spd worth saving?

Hi Guys,

Sadly the transmission went out on my 1984 190d 5spd. Car creeps forward in every gear, including reverse. Everything else on the car is great (sans the non functioning sunroof and drivers window). It got wonderful MPG, around 40, and leaked a little oil in the process. It's paint and body are nearly perfect without any rust. Shop says they estimate repairs to be 2500 plus labor for a rebuilt tranny.

Is the car worth it? Is it worth trying to sell with a busted tranny? Should I just donate it to charity? If I keep it and sell it I'll probably have to tow it back to my home which could cost $400. (I was on a trip when it failed.)

I've heard the 190d 5spd is somewhat rare, but is it really worth saving?
Thanks for the help out,
-Isaac
